HE is here!!!

It's a BOY!!! William Cornell Zimmerman (named after his two wonderful grandfathers, William is Paul's dad who goes by Bill and Cornell is mine) was born on Friday, June 24th at 6:04 pm. He weighed 8 lbs. 5 oz. and was 21 inches long.

Now let me back up a little...I went to my 40-week appointment and my doctor was as surprised to see me as I was to be there :-). I was dilated 5 cm and 95% effaced. Being that far along, having a 45-minute drive to the hospital and it being my second baby, she felt it was best to enduce me and she was going to be on-call on Friday. I went back and forth about it, but in the end decided she was right.

Unfortunately, my dad who had been here for 3 days and my mom who had been here for 10 both had to go home before Friday, but Paul's mom had flown in on Tuesday and was here to help with Kennedy. We couldn't believe my parents had to miss the birth...we had joked about it, but didn't really think it would happen!!

So, on Friday, they checked us into the hospital, got me ready...at a little after 3pm they broke my water and in less than 3 hours, little Will was in my arms! I had said I didn't feel boy or girl the whole pregnancy and I wouldn't be surprised either way, but both Paul and I were pretty shocked it was a boy! We were also surprised by how big he was...Kennedy was only 6 lbs. 12 oz., so he already felt much sturdier to us. We could not be happier with our bundle of joy...he is a wonderful baby and we are enjoying every minute with him. Kennedy is doing very well with him too...she loves him and kisses him all day long, but is having a hard time getting used to sharing mommy :-).

His first bath.

Kennedy watching the bath and checking out her new brother.

Going home from the hospital.

We bought Kennedy a baby doll that cries, takes a paci, has a stroller and all gear and decided to give it to her when we brought the baby home. She absolutely loved it!! It was a bigger hit than I thought it was going to be. She acts like a little mom.

3 Days Old

Uh-oh...good thing I caught her before it was too late :-).

Kennedy thought Will looked cold :-).

Packed for the hospital?...check!!

I'm not sure why, but I have been putting off packing our hospital bag for awhile...maybe it's because I think if it's not packed the baby won't come :-). I have been anxious every night thinking the baby may come and we have no one to stay with Kennedy, but my mom comes in tonight, so now the baby can come at any time!!

Anyway, yesterday afternoon we went on our tour of St. Mary's Hospital in Madison where will be delivering very soon! I think it was actually being in the labor and delivery rooms that made me realize I really needed to go home and pack THE bag, so I did. Here is the most exciting part....

Can't wait to see which outfit we will be using!!

Kennedy's 1st Salon Visit

On Monday, Kennedy and I went to a salon in Janesville to get her haircut. On the way there I was feeling a lot of guilt...like, how can I already be getting my child's hair cut, she's just a baby?! But, it was just something that had to be done....the front wasn't growing at all and the back was a little out of control :-). To my surprise, Kennedy did very well...she just sat there watching and let hairstylist do a wonderful job! I was a little nervous, but her knew bob looks very cute; I can't believe how much older it makes her look!

Her first day before daycare with a big girl haircut.

Annette Therese Drake

My cousin, Danielle, and her husband, Caleb, brought this beautiful baby girl into the world on Saturday, June 4th. She weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. and was 21 inches long. She was named after our Grandma, who was quite simply one of the most kind, caring and wonderful people I have ever known. My mom also has the same name :-). I know they are just loving the new addition to their family and Cash is, I'm sure, an awesome big brother! Congratulations...we can't wait to meet her!!

Feeding the Baby Calves/Getting Ready for our Baby

Last week we finally had some nice weather; well, I say nice, but it wasn't really. It was very hot and humid, but it was at least it was weather you could go outside in...the mornings were definitely the most enjoyable time of day! We seriously went from winter to summer here and completely skipped over spring....my poor child still insists she needs a coat to go outside...who can blame her though, she has been used to bundling up since October and now we have this?! It's awful, but at least we can get out of the house more! So, last week we spent a lot of time exploring the dairy and Kennedy's favorite part is always the baby calves. One afternoon I gave her an empty bottle and she was pretending to feed them...here is a video...so funny....

Later that day we spent some time getting ready for our baby...got the bassinet out, washed pacis and bottles, got the car seat ready to go, etc. Here's a picture of Kennedy helping...she is obsessed with being in the car seat and bassinet and using the baby's pacifiers :-).

I can't believe it wasn't that long ago that this car seat swallowed her up and she needed an extra insert just to help her stay upright!!
